Do I need the 42 inch or the 32 inch wide for an open floor plan, living room area approximately 18x18? We have vaulted ceilings almost 17ft high. The length of the entire room (kitchen and living area) is 32 ft but as stated the living room is about 18 feet long and lights will be in this space. I plan on purchasing two also.

BEST ANSWER: As a rule of thumb, you would add the dimensions of the room to obtain the width of the fixture. For example 18+18 = 36 inches in width. However, the trend these days is to go with a little larger fixture and because your ceilings are quite tall, you could get away with the 42 inch. However, if you prefer to stick with the rule of thumb, you would go with the 32 inch. It comes down to a matter of personal preference!
