Mission Style With A Contemporary Flair
We use this chandelier over our dining room table. Actually, it's more like a dining "area" that's completely open on one end (with a short walkway to the kitchen) and mostly open on one side with a waist-high half-wall that opens to the entry foyer. Consequently, we wanted a chandelier that could cast a large amount of light, when needed, but was also capable of lower light levels when desired. This chandelier fits the bill perfectly. It takes 5 bulbs rated at a maximum 60 watts each. To save energy, we use dimmable CFL bulbs that are equivalent to a 75-watt incandescent bulb, yet consume only 15 watts each at maximum power. We also installed a dimmer switch (capable of handling CFL bulbs) for those times when we don't require a lot of light. Beyond functionality, we also wanted a chandelier that would complement our home's Western/Native American decor and our Mission/Arts & Crafts furniture and existing table and floor lamps. Again, this chandelier is perfect. Its design is derived from the Mission Prairie style, but with an elegant, contemporary update that doesn't scream, "Spanish hacienda!" We love this design so much that we are in the process of retrofitting the rest of our home with the other ceiling light fixtures from the Franklin Iron Works Oak Valley Collection.

Pros: Great Illumination, Quality Construction, Stylish

Best Uses: Over Table, High Ceilings

Very sturdy light
I ordered this light for my kitchen breakfast nook as part of a kitchen remodel. It is slightly larger than i was expecting, however it looks good (i think). I was impressed by the quality - HEAVY metal and it took two people to get the chain link opened for hanging. It calls out for 5 bulbs - we did not need much light or want it to be overpowering, so we just bought lower wattage bulbs instead. The only "flaw" with the design is that to change the bulbs you have to unscrew the nut on the very bottom of the light and let the glass bowl drop out (this has to be done because there is a metal grate over the top of the bulbs - presumably to minimize up-lighting or to keep objects from falling into the bowl... like kids' play toys being tossed about). Well built light - i'd recommend it.

Pros: Easy To Hang, Stable Design, Quality Construction

Cons: Difficult To Change Bulb, Heavy

Best Uses: High Ceilings, Decoration, Over Table

Good dining room chandelier
We hung this chandelier above our dining room table. The ceiling is sloped and this hung just fine.

We installed a dimmer switch which works well to change the mood and light intensity. We used CFL dimmer bulbs.

Use two people to hang the chandelier. It is very heavy. To change the bulbs, you need to drop the glass bottom. It is not difficult but does take a few minutes to do.

Pros: Great Illumination, Stylish, Quality Construction, Good price value, Stable Design

Cons: Heavy, Difficult To Change Bulb

Best Uses: Over Table, High Ceilings, Decoration, Primary Light Source

Lots of light and a great value
We hung this fixture in our dining room, which is decorated in the Arts and Crafts style, i.e. mission oak furniture. It gives great illumination and looks fabulous. Although hard to hang, and changing bulbs requires removing the glass, it is a beautiful light.

Pros: Great Illumination, Quality Construction, Stable Design, Attractive Design

Cons: Difficult To Change Bulb, Hard To Hang

Best Uses: Large Rooms, Primary Light Source

A beautiful piece
This pendant is a perfect addition to our home; the piece we received is darker than what is shown in the picture but overall much better quality than I was anticipating. It took 2 people to hang the pendant & to secure the bowl once the bulbs were put in, which was not an easy task. Not looking forward to when they need to be replaced, but I would definitely recommend anything from the Oak Valley collection.

Pros: Stable Design, Quality Construction, Great Illumination, Stylish

Cons: Difficult To Change Bulb
