BEST ANSWER: If more light is needed, this can use up to a 100 watt bulb. But, try adding a table top dimmer to provide that versatility you may be looking for.

With a 40 watt bulb will this lamp be as bright as a traditional table lamp?

BEST ANSWER: No, I don't think so. I use a 60 watt bulb and the lamp sends gentle, ambient light up and into the living room, dining room and hall way. If a 100 watt bulb were used, the light would be much stronger, maybe like a table lamp.. Actually I have two of these lamps and like them both for subtle lighting.

Very Cool and I am very pleased.
This lamp is very simply elegant;emitting a soft glow for a bedside lamp.The glow shines through the beige, linen, cylinder shade, making a fine texture effect. Black electric cord has inline switch and accepts standard base bulbs; I am using a yellow light (bug bulb) for a soft effect. Fits in with my contemporary-cottage decor. I bought the black base to match dark wood. Packaged very well. Much better than I expected and the price was amazing with free shipping. Really nice.

Perfect for top of high cabinet.
Was looking for a lamp to illuminate low-light ferns and ivies on top of an 84" high antique cabinet. There was no need for a plant light and other fixtures I tried shined light into my eyes, as the cabinet faces my work desk.

This lamp solved the problem, using an 8 watt LED lamp, that gently illuminates the ferns without glaring in my eyes as I work, day or night.

I also like the neutral color. The base color is not important for me, since it can not be seen as the lamp is against the wall and at the back of the cabinet.

All in all, this is a good little lamp for an area that needs "muted" lighting.
